"I was the first Prana Flow Teacher Trainer for Shiva Rea, spanning the globe for three years, before Instagram, FB, & online yoga classes existed; when Yoga Journal was THE magazine and THE conference to attend, and Prana Vinyasa(TM) was called Prana Flow. In my mid 20s, a former boyfriend led me to a second story yoga studio in the lower east village of New York City where I got my first taste of enlightenment...at Jivamukti. Seven years later, I left my corporate job upon completion of a 9 month, 500 hour yoga teacher training program with Alan Finger [ISHTA - Integrated Science of Hatha Tantra & Ayurveda]. It was in my very early years of teaching in NYC, that I was inspired by teachers of many different styles of Yoga including Shiva Rea, Sharon Gannon, David Life, Rod Stryker, Richard Freeman, David Swenson, Doug Swenson, Rodney Yee, Ana Forest, John Friend, Lois Nesbitt, Jill Satterfield, Sarah Powers, Seane Corn, Gurmukh, Judith Lasater, Gary Kraftsow, Cyndi Lee, Mark Whitwell, André Lappe, Brian Kest, Dharma Mitra, Kofi Busia, Louisa Sears, Rachel Zinman, & Gertrud Hirsch.
Sometimes just one class with such a gifted teacher could either plant a seed or turn everything upside down to “right” side up. I list them out of deep respect and gratitude as a teacher who bows deeply to her root teachers, and the root teachings of Yoga.
I am a vegan and co-owner of a plant-based restaurant called Piante [Italian for “seed”]. I am an advocate of home-birthing, home-schooling, pro-choice non-compulsory vaccinations; of questioning mainstream media and history books; of recording our own history by tracing our roots back to our ancestors, to know the wisdom of our elders, to understand how we got here and how we can grow together in our differences rather than apart. I believe that nature heals and technology helps, that I know nothing at all absolutely, and that this absolutely sets me free.
I am a conscious parent and wife-in-training who knows that there is no training manual for anyone that works for everyone. And even that, I do not know to be true. All I think I know is when I get steady and still, I open and close myself to listen to my heart....my beating alive heart...And that’s when I know that I am Light. I am free. I am God/dess, embodied.
...And from this place I guide, teach, connect, and inspire... and I ask of my students to also go inward in order to truly know themselves.
Want to know more? I’m a couch buddy to Marley our rescue dog; a snowboarder living in dreamland Colorado; a surfer practicing patience while she lives in the mountains; and a yoga teacher who has traveled beyond my wildest dreams crisscrossing the planet since 2002, first solo and now often times with my family supporting my teachings and enjoying the adventures.
I have offered teacher trainings, presented at festivals, conferences, and retreats worldwide. I️ have been a cover model for Yoga Journal Magazine in the USA, Spain and Australia, featured in yoga & fitness magazines in Germany, Spain, China, Korea, Australia & the USA; I’ve filmed for DVDs distributed in Japan; and an online yoga sites in the USA (Gaiam & Yogin’it); and I am currently 1 of 15 Yoga Journal Influencers (#YJInfluencer) chosen not for my number of social media followers, but I imagine, more for the in-person deeper connections that can only develop over time... eye to eye... face to face... heart to heart... one student teacher exchange at a time...one class at a time... one year at a time... possibly over fifteen years or so.
But none of this matters does it(?) if I’m not walking the walk and just talking the talk. So I look inside for the answers everyday... and often throughout the day... and by doing that kind of self-study, I’m guided to share what and how I’ve been listening to and living by way of my heart... as I continue to wipe away the image of who I think I am, and I continue to love living in the fullness of just Being me.
Times have changed for me since I first found yoga 20 years ago... or it found me.
I offer immersions now, and I love teaching with other teacher friends, experiencing every opportunity to deepen inward, to reflect on how Yoga is working for us in our daily living. Join me when you are called to join. Let’s live Yoga together and explore the Infinite ways to Be."
Before teaching yoga, Twee worked in Corporate America as an internet recruiter during the dot com boom (and bust), and as a membership sales consultant for a NYC health & fitness club. Her first job out of college was in the fashion world "schlepping" fabrics down to ladies wear clothing manufacturers specializing in polyester apparel!
Prana Vinyasa™ is an energetic, creative, full spectrum approach to embodying the flow of yoga, cultivated by Shiva Rea and the Global Vinyasa Collective of Teachers. Students of all levels are empowered to experience prana- the universal source of breath, life-energy and conscious intelligence- as the navigating source of yoga practice and vital living.
It is an evolutionary method of embodied transformation and radiant health, cultivating inner and outer strength and fluidity, skill and intuition, vital energy and relaxed being, activation and receptivity, through balanced and creative fluid sequences (vinyasas), a catalyst for transforming old patterns and paradigms of the body, self, and the world to discover the potency and creativity within; a way of liberating the natural flow of the spontaneous intelligence; a cultivation of the art of yoga including movement, music, sound, visual arts, and poetry to deepen the flow; a way to ride the waves of breath, change and life rhythms; living, loving, serving life in all forms.
"During the morning we spent with her and her puppy Marley at their Brooklyn home, she blessed us with this beautiful interview and a hypnotizing yoga practice. Every single word that comes out of her mouth is a true inspiration, especially when she talks about the new life (by now beautiful Hana Sky) she is hosting inside her "goddess temple.” Listen to her and you will understand what being a yogi is." -Sonia Ribas, Founder, Yogin'it.com
